Annual Update & Happy Birthday Syd

It’s Syd’s birthday today and the perfect time to share how her foundation is doing.

First, and of course the most important, thank you everyone who has donated or helped share our message. You are helping us make Syd’s name a legacy that can continue on forever. The most important thing to me now is making sure Syd is remembered.

Our mission for the mental health foundation is to get our donations to the people that would benefit the most from it, and not have important money get lost in wages or marketing like many Not-For-Profits do. Our aim is to support other foundations that are either mostly volunteer run, or their mental health providers (like counsellors) are subsidizing or volunteering some of their time as well.

So what’s happened this year?

We received 21 donations from individuals/families.
We received 5 donations from businesses and their fundraisers.
We received 4 repeat donations, which means a lot to us that people are willing to share more than once.

What have we done?

We donated $1000 to B.A.R.K. at the UBCO campus (read our previous post for info about this important initiative).

We’ve confirmed that UBCO will continue their scholarship “Sydney Bednarik Honours Thesis Award in Psychology” annually and fund it themselves.

We’re in the process of getting an annual scholarship set up at UVic that will go towards a student in their later years of study working towards improving our mental health services in Canada.

And we have a few more ideas on the way.

Lastly, PLEASE feel like you are a part of this foundation. All ideas are welcome and we’re happy to chat. We’d love to hear your ideas for fundraisers and things we can do.

Thank you everyone.
